Test Shoot 02/06/2011

Yet another test shoot. This one was because I am still not happy with theresults I have been coming up with. Plus I wanted to try something new..ish. Anyway for this shoot I took digital images of my blisters and then exposed some old polaroid film. Once that was done I lifted the emulsion from the polaroids as I normally would have done. After that they were dried and scanned into the computer. Then they were blended with the digital images to finally create what it is that I am looking for!  It took me quite along time to do, as I am not very acomplished with photoshop, however I am very happy with the end results. Overall, I think that the end results are finally looking like how I imagined they would. However I will have to re-think how I am going to exhibit them and the mthod of producing the images has changed.

Anyway some feed back on the image would be nice, so please feel free.

Test Shoot 31/05/2011

On the 31st I decided to begin shooting the final images for my project. However I didnt get the exposure setting right on the camera and the images came out way too dark. So basically I ruin six shots of expensive polaroid film. However I wasnt going to let that film be wasted, and I decided to try something alittle different from what i was doing before. I decided that Where the blisters were on my feet i would remove parts of the emulsion lift and almost create a blister on the image. I thought this was a good substitute for my idea not goign to plan.

Experiment 29/05/2011

Today I had another go at emulsion lifts, but this time I was using coloured polaroid film. I did this because I didnt think that the black and white film worked as well as it could have and I thought that the colour would do better for this project. So with this experiment it was much easier to actually produce the lifts as I knew what I was doing and I had kind of perfected the way that I take the emulsion off of the polaroid. However I did have some issues with the image at capture point. The flash on the camera was bleaching all the detail out of the foot so you couldnt see the blister at all. However i did partically rectify this issue but using the flash over ride button but this through the exposure out of the window. However check out the results and give me some feed back.

Experiment 26/05/2011 & 27/05/2011

After experimenting with the digital emulsion lifts i decided that I would actually attempt a emulsion lift. I did this because i didnt quite get the effects that I was after with the digital version. It didnt have the different textures and effects that emulsion lifts posess. Overall I think that the effects that I created with the emulsion lifts works really well and I am very happy with the results however, this experiment wasnt without its difficulties. The first difficulty was that the flash on the camera was bleaching out any detail that I was trying to capture. I solved this problem simply but overriding the flash. the second problem was that I wasnt getting close enough to the subject to actually see what it is that I want to photograph. However I am very happy with the process and think that it lends itself perfectly to this project. As well as experimenting with emulsion lifts I dabbled in transparencies. I did this because I was interested in the differences between the two effects.

Feel free to comment on either of my experiments.

Experiment 25/05/2011

So my next experimentation for thsi project was to try and create the style of an emulsion lift using digital technology. I did this because I wanted to see if it was something that I could possibly use in this project or in the future at some point. At first this porcess was very difficult to get the effects that I wanted but after several different attempts I managed to create something that was very similar to what I wanted to create. Overall I am very happy with this effect however it isnt the same as an actual emulsion lift and doesnt really have the same qualities as one.

Feel free to give me feed back on my image.

Experiment 23/05/2011

But first the NEWS!!! My polaroid camera has arrived!! Thanks to my aunt and sister for sending it me.. my film however is in germany !?! So I will have to wait a couple of more days for that.

Anyway, on to my first experiment. I finished the editing and write up yesterday and the results were very interesting to say the least. I began by photographing different body parts on a plain white background, once that was done I photographed my blisters. After the photographic part was done i moved onto the photoshop faze. I then layered images of blisters over the different body parts. This all went really well and from there i simply erased the parts I didnt want. The next step was to print off the images and start distressing them. This again is an experiment so I had no idea how it would turn out.

The end results were very interesting and I didnt really know what they would turn out like. Images will be following shortly.

Weekend Update

So the main job this weekend for me was to obtain a polariod camera and order the correct film fo said camera. Well I am happy to report that both have been a complete success! Thank God & my Aunty Davinder! I am now simply waiting for them to arrive and my project can begin. Until thin I am experimenting alittle bit and writing up what I find.

So as well as obtaing the neccessary equipment needed for my project, this week has been full of suprises and progress. At the begining of the week I sent emails to a few of my favourite photographers at the moment, and sent them some of my work as asked for feed back. Thus far I have recieved two replies out of five, and the comments so far have been very possitive. This I can safely say is boosting my confidence and makes me want to get in full swing for my next project (hence the experimenting, I just cant sit still, I have to be doing something) As well as this good news for me, other FivebyFour Collective member Igor Trawinski recieved a email from Rankin himself!! So well done Igor, we are all jealous!

Anyway I think that that is all for now, Tomorrow I will update you all on how my first experimentation went.
